A mechanical device called a "Float Trap" uses the difference in steam density to create a trap. A valve in this device keeps a floating trap ball in place. The ball floats on the liquid when the valve body is filled with liquid. The floating ball is attached to the valve gate with an iron rod so that, when the ball rises, the valve gate may be opened.
